Pattern Making Academy brings you Fashion Design ~ Creativity and Science [FD~CS], which is a series of pattern making units in an e-book format (downloadable .pdf). The small, stand alone units are designed for self-paced learning, with colour-coding and step-by-step instructions to help you create the master block you need for an individual, fit model or target market.
With shape as opposed to size as the key feature, the drafting procedures are specific for each figure type, and take into consideration variables such as: body shape, pivot points, fork extensions, formula specifications, geometric variables, number of darts, value and distribution. Keypoints and examples of specific checking points such as sleevehead and armhole relationship, and front to back crotch requirements have been included for the five figure types, where required. Figure Type A is a clear example of drafting for morphological shape due to the distinct characteristic of the thigh region.
Importantly, although each figure type system may appear to be conceptually the same, particular emphasis on the above elements shows how shape characteristics affect the draft, which in turn affects the fitting process.
You will also find 2 printed books available, which are based on the same principles:
